In conjunction with CPB Contractors, Broad Construction played a significant role in the delivery of the inlet and public realm development works at the award-winning Elizabeth Quay on behalf of the West Australian Government.
Covering approximately 10 hectares of prime riverfront land in the heart of Perth, the transformation of Elizabeth Quay involved the construction of a new inlet with associated roads, parks, promenades and an island with a connecting bridge.
The contract was awarded in December 2012 and a schedule of works, both marine and land-based, including dredging, piling and earthworks was undertaken by CPB Contractors and Broad Construction. The result has been the delivery of a world class waterfront destination.
The project involved:
- The dredging of 12,000m3 of material from the site
- The excavation of 165,000m3 of material for the inlet and promenade
- Paving an area of 36,000m2 with two million granite pavers being laid by hand
- The emplacement of 16,000m3 of compacted limestone to create an island
- The construction of a 150m footbridge over the inlet.
The historic Barrack Street Jetty precinct also underwent a major facelift. A new ferry terminal was built inside the inlet for commuters traveling to and from South Perth and the city, and new food and beverage outlets were provided.
