In March 2016, Broad Construction was selected as preferred contractor for the upgrade of the fire services systems at the Domestic Terminal Building (DTB) at Brisbane Airport.
The scope of work included the following:
- Upgrade of existing smoke detection system
- Upgrade of existing emergency lighting and exit signs
- Upgrade of existing sound and intercom system
- Improved overall system performance.
The project was delivered over two phases; an extensive planning and design phase, followed by construction works which commenced in mid-2016.
During the design phase of the project our team worked closely with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) to carefully plan the works in a staged approach and finalise the design to meet these stages.
Throughout the works the DTB remained operational and a critical aspect of the project was to ensure minimum disruption to its operations.
Through delivery of comparable projects, Broad Construction has developed a thorough understanding and ability to deliver works while minimising the impact on operations, and executed this expertise through both design/ planning phase and the construction phase.
Stakeholder engagement across the whole project was deemed to be a success with the relationships garnered with the major tenancies, proving to be invaluable with accessing the Qantas and Virgin controlled areas.
Broad Construction’s involvement with the Airport has resulted in an extensive knowledge base of the terminal building and associated services and does provide a unique advantage when viewing potential new projects.
