The Submarine Facility in Henderson is the main maintenance hub for submarines in Western Australia.
After successfully constructing the new Submarine Maintenance Facility in 2007, Broad Construction secured the design and construction contract to upgrade and extend the facility for ASC, Australia's largest naval prime contractor, in preparation for the scheduled Collins Class submarine docking.
The project involved:
- Building a new 150-person canteen, workshops, toilets, and storage areas for trade user groups
- Creating new office spaces and meeting rooms for support staff
- Installing a 'Skybridge' to connect the maintenance hall to the external hardstand
- Constructing walkways, platforms, and stairways to provide high-level access to submarines on the external hardstand
- Adding walkways, platforms, and stairways across three levels for access between offices, workshops, amenities, and the submarine inside the maintenance hall
- Upgrading and expanding industrial services.
