In late 2010 Rio Tinto Iron Ore (Rio Tinto) announced plans to expand their Pilbara iron ore operations from 225 Mt/a to 333 Mt/a by December 2015. The Leighton 333 Growth Alliance was established to help Rio Tinto and their EPCMs achieve this ambitious target.
Under the Alliance, all of Leighton Contractors (now CPB Contractors) ‘Operating Units’ are made available to Rio Tinto and their partners for the purpose of delivering a diversified range of project delivery services.
As a partner in the Leighton 333 Growth Alliance, Broad’s expertise lies in the fields of industrial buildings, housing, camps, refurbishment, project management, schools, hospitals, shopping centres, offices, civil works and development.
We were successful in securing the Wickham Central Facilities Building project as part of the 333 Growth Alliance.
After tendering the project in the second half of 2011 we negotiated final contract terms with Rio Tinto to deliver its 333 central facilities solution with assistance from the 333 Framework team.
The works involved some minor demolition, importation of fill, piling with a slab on ground. The main structure is steel framed with a variety of cladding solutions to provide a benchmark finish for this type of facility. The roof is a fully sealed construction and the internal fit-out involving extensive cool rooms and storage as well as a fully equipped commercial kitchen. Substantial dining and recreation facilities were also provided with outdoor shade structures and landscaping solutions.
The facility is used to feed and provide recreation for FIFO works in the town of Wickham which is currently undergoing a $300
