Situated in the Newcastle suburb of Cardiff Heights, the new facility features a full commercial kitchen and laundry on the lower ground floor.
The ground floor contains a 15 bed High Care wing and a 15 bed Dementia wing, each with a separate servery, office and storage areas. The upper floor has a 30 bed low care layout with community areas.
The construction utilised post tensioned concrete slabs and reinforced footings, masonry walls with a finish of face brickwork, cement render and plasterboard wall systems with timber roof trusses and metal colorbond roofing.
In addition to the 60 residents’ suites, the internal facilities include landscaped courtyards and lounges. Incorporating ‘warm’ colours through the use of wall paper, timber veneers, carpet and painting, the design also provided welded vinyl to walls and floors in bathroom areas, decorative coffers and cornices in ceilings and full air-conditioning to all areas.
We constructed the 60 bed facility for Christian Brethren Community Services (CBCS) and more than 250 guests helped bring life and warmth to Groves House and welcome the new residents home on July 17, 2010.
The official opening of the new Groves House Aged Care Facility was celebrated with a wonderful display of community, care and enthusiasm.
The special event not only marked the accomplishment and pride of completing a new facility, but completed the transition from busy construction site into a leading aged care environment.
Member for Charlton, Hon Greg Combet MP officially opened the centre and specifically noted the high quality of works he had witnessed throughout the complex. The Directors of the CBCS team with whom we’d dealt with on a weekly basis, all spoke in the highest terms of a relationship which was based on confidence, trust and integrity as the project had powered its way through the various phases of works.
