Broad was successful in the tender to fit-out levels 19 to 31 of the David Malcolm Justice Centre (treasury building) as part of the $700m works for Cathedral and Treasury Precinct development.
The building is located at 28 Barrack Street in Perth’s central business district and the project comprised the fit-out of approximately 13,500sqm of office space to accommodate agencies of Western Australian Government, the Department of the Attorney General and the Department of Treasury.
The works were carried out simultaneously with Broad’s fit-out of the lower levels (2 to 16) for the Supreme Courts (Civil) of Western Australia.
Throughout the duration of two projects carried out simultaneously to fit-out the David Malcolm Justice Centre the works were documented through film, which truly shows the quality of the completed projects.
Having secured the lower level fit-out works we were able to expand the existing Supreme Courts project delivery team with added supervision, commercial and administration personnel to accommodate the additional fit-out (levels 19 to 31) works.
Throughout the tender process the pre-contracts team, working closely with the existing delivery team, were able to modify works packages for subcontracting and facilitate economies of scale from leading subcontractors.
The existing logistics plans already in place and ongoing procurement process for the lower floors enabled a ‘whole tower’ approach to be undertaken for both fit-out projects. This method proved an extremely efficient logistics solution.
The project was awarded practical completion for Separable Portion 1 (SP1) on 30 March 2016. SP1 included the fit-out of seven floors (19 to 25) of office space which incorporated meeting rooms, breakout areas, and ICT rooms.
Separable Portion 2 of the project achieved practical completion on 16 May 2016 and marked the overall completion of the fit-out works with the handover of the concluding levels (26 to 31).
Work began on site in October 2015 and completed on time. The project comprised demolition of existing facilities, structural work, all joinery and cabinet work, installation of operable wall systems, electrical services, mechanical services, hydraulic services, installation of audio visual equipment, installation of ceilings and flooring materials, and coordination of all visual graphical elements of the fit-out.
The result, a turnkey office fit-out project for members of the State Government to occupy.
NB: Broad undertook the fit-out of the building on behalf of the State. Mirvac / Keppel REIT are the owners of the building.
Broad was delighted to have secured further fit-out works in the David Malcolm Justice Centre (33-storey treasury building) in the $700m Cathedral and Treasury Precinct. As our team was already undertaking fit-out works on levels 2 to 16, it gave us the opportunity to create maximum value for money and find the most cost-effective way deliver the project for BMW.
