A great addition for Perth’s commuting public

The newest and greenest car park in Perth is an important addition to the city’s facilities and has created an additional 580 car bays compared to the old structure.

The facility has vastly improved not only the aesthetics of the building, but also the access and egress for Perth’s commuting public.

Construction of the new car park required careful planning to minimise disruptions to the existing neighbouring offices, nearby residential housing and hotel facilities.

The project involved the demolition of the existing two level car park, which catered for 484 vehicles, and the construction of a new five level car park with a 1064 car bays, a secured area for up to 54 bicycles and a secured area for up to 58 motorcycles.

The project ran like clockwork throughout its duration and completed ahead of schedule, enhancing Broad’s relationship with the City of Perth. Just three days after the City of Perth awarded the early practical completion, it officially opened the new Elder Street Car Park.

Parking in the green

The facility is packed with many state-of-the-art power saving and environmentally friendly features, including:

  • It is the first city car park to offer recharging facilities for electric cars, with 12 special ‘hardwired’ bays.
  • The five-level car park features efficient, sensor-controlled lighting which closes down when there is no customer movement, thereby reducing energy use and costs.
  • Solar panels on the roof supply energy to the electric car-recharging points.
  • The building is designed for natural ventilation while rainwater will be returned to the underground water table through soak wells.
