Standing Tall

The Urbanest development stands as the tallest student accommodation building in Melbourne.

Our team undertook the design and construction of the 24-storey, 571-bed student accommodation building that is owned and operated by Urbanest. The 11,000 sqm site is located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD and the building has a footprint of just 660 sqm. Works commenced with the demolition of the previous structure in February 2013.

Environmental initiatives such as solar-heated hot water, recycled water, energy efficient glazing and the use of materials from sustainable sources have been incorporated into the building’s design.

It is only a short distance to the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Melbourne in Albert Park. The development comprises single or double studio apartments and cluster apartments, with common living and kitchen areas. The ground floor consists of an entry foyer; office space and meeting rooms; student communal spaces; and back of house services.

The level 1 area is now occupied by the adjacent Welsh Church and was delivered as a shell space only.

Side Note

In November 2010, Broad Construction Services (NSW/VIC) Pty Ltd teamed up with Melbourne based APM Group to form Joint Venture (JV) BroadAPM. The JV combined a track record in commercial construction of nearly 40 years offering a competitive mid-tier construction cost alternative in Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania.

BroadAPM is now fully incorporated into Broad.
